(KNZA)--A local casino achieves a statewide first.

That comes as the Golden Eagle Casino becomes the first in Kansas to permit those under the age of 21 onto the casino floor.

According to a news release issued by the casino, owned and operated by the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas, the distinction comes as those 18-years and older are allowed to play select class 2 slot machines.

The change took effect October 17.

Kickapoo Tribal Chairman Lester Randall, in the news release, says the tribe is “excited to be the first casino in Kansas to make this change” and they are “extremely pleased to see this come to fruition” and “look forward to offering a lot more options to our younger gaming audience.”

The casino, which stands on the Brown County-based Kickapoo reservation, west of Horton, was the first Native American Indian Casino to open in Kansas, with operations beginning on May 18, 1996.
