(KNZA)--A public auction has been set for a county-owned building in downtown Hiawatha used by the Brown County Historical Society.
The Brown County Commission Monday approved a notice for publication setting the auction for the building located at 518 Oregon, which currently houses Jack’s Trains, for the morning of November 7th at 10:00 in the 1st floor lobby of the courthouse.
Commissioners set a minimum bid of $45,000 for the building, which has an appraised value of about $127,000.
Interested parties can take a tour of the building on the morning of November 4th from 9 to noon.
The building was deeded to the county by the Historical Society for insurance reasons.
Commissioner Steve Roberts says the Historical Society can no longer afford to maintain the building.
He says the organization plans to use proceeds from the auction to construct a building at their Ag Museum site on East Iowa Street to house Jack's Trains and artifacts from the Frances Sewell Plamann estate.
