(KNZA)--The 102nd annual Hiawatha Halloween Frolic is coming up.
The theme this year is “ Nightmare on Oregon Street.”
Activities will begin on Friday, October 28th and continue on Monday, October 31st.
Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce Board member Katie Miller says several new events have been added this year—including a haunted house trolley tour the evening of October 28th sponsored by the Brown County Historical Society, which will goes hand-in-hand with their house decorating contest. Miller says there will trolley tours of the two categories—family friendly and spooky--with riders then voting for their favorites.
She says also being added this year is activities between the two parades on October 31 around the courthouse square---including a chili cook-off, pumpkin roll and various vendors.
The afternoon parade will take place at 3:00 and the grand evening parade at 7:00 following the crowning of the Halloween queen.
Miller says residents will also have an opportunity to help decide what next year’s Halloween theme should be. She says golden jack-o-lanterns have been placed at several businesses where you can write down what you think the 2017 theme should be and place it in the bucket.
Near the end of the month, Miller says the businesses will pull their two favorites and then the Chamber will conduct an on-line voting campaign, with the winner to be announced at the end of this year’s evening parade.
