(KNZA)--A two-vehicle collision on U.S.36 Highway in Wathena Saturday evening claimed the life of a Kansas City, Kansas man and left four Severance residents injured.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says killed in the wreck about a half-mile east of South 1st Street was 38-year-old Antonio Santiago-Hernandez.

The Patrol says Santiago-Hernandez was westbound when for some unknown his pickup truck crossed the center line and struck an eastbound pickup truck driven by 43-year-old Richard Smith head-on shortly after 6:40.

Santiago-Hernandez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Richard Smith was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, with what the Patrol described as disabling injuries.

Three passengers in his vehicle, 33-year-old Katie Smith, 9-year-old Tristian Smith and 10-year-old Paige Smith, were transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
