Enrollment Up in USD 415

(KNZA)--Enrollment is up in the Hiawatha school district this school year.

Superintendent Penny Hargrove told the USD 415 Board of Education Monday evening that the final enrollment count shows 40 more students than last school year.

However, due to the block grant funding system currently in place, the district will not receive any additional state aid because of the enrollment increase.

In other business, the Board accepted a bid from Midwest Coating, of Topeka, to replace the roof on the remaining 7 sections of the Hiawatha Elementary School for a cost of nearly $134,000.

The project is part of the $9.2 million bond issue approved by voters in the spring of 2015.

The district bid out the project instead of going through the PI Group, which is serving as construction manager risk on the bond projects.  The bid came in around $66,000 less than what the PI Group had estimated.

The contractor will complete the project in stages, with final completion by August 1st of next year.
