Henson JIU-JITSU is approaching its grand opening at 103 East Grand Avenue.
Owners Jacob and Kim Henson have remodeled the space, including adding 2-inch professional martial art mats for the safety of team members.
The grand opening is tentatively set for Oct. 15. All members who are signed up before 2 p.m. Oct. 15 will receive the seminar for free that day. All non-members may attend it for $50.
Jacob Henson said the Jiu Jitsu instructor, Carlos Diaz, is a 2nd Degree Black Belt and will be in Ponca City from American Top Team in Florida. He will conduct a three hour class from 2 to 5 p.m.
All team members who sign up before the grand opening will get 15 percent off for one year, he said.
"We will also offer door prizes and prizes to member who sign up between now and the grand opening by random drawing," he said. Prizes will include free private lessons, a free month, three free months, shirts, hoodies and other prizes.
Henson said active Ponca City Police will have full access to the facility at a discounted rate of $25.
"We offer a substantal discounted set price to our Military and firemen and women. College students are 20 percent off," he said.
Henson said they are working on preparing a summer program for school children as well as an after school program next year.
The owners also are active in fundraising for the Polycystic Kidney Disease Research Foundation.
"We always offer anyone in the community to partner with us and raise money for the Polycystic Kidney Disease Research Foundation," Henson said. "If it is the change left over from a purchase or a dollar -- every six months, whatever money the gym raises will be donated to this foundation. We add one dollar for every shirt we sale. We also do demonstrations for fund raising. This is to spread awareness about this disease that affects so many, including myself."
