(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council has approved a change to the city’s employee residency policy.

The Council Wednesday evening approved a revision to the personnel manual replacing the existing requirement that employees live within two miles of the city limits to one requiring a 15-minute response time.

Council member Steve Bennett cast the lone no vote to the revision, saying he had heard from several residents in his ward who were against the change.

Department heads will still be required to live within two miles of the city limits.

The revision was developed by the council’s personnel committee after newly hired police officer Kendal Grimm asked the council in June for an exemption from the residency requirement.

On-call employees responsible for city utility systems already have a 15-minute response time requirement.
