Rail Crossing to Get Warning Devices

(KNZA)--A Brown County railroad crossing will be getting warning devices.

The County Commission Monday approved an agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad and Kansas Department of Transportation for the installation of crossing gates and warning lights at a crossing on Antelope Road.

Federal funds will pay for 100 percent of the project cost. The county will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of advance warning signs.

A date for the installation of the warning devices hasn’t been announced.

In other business, the Commission took another step in the process of holding a county tax foreclosure sale.

The Commission voted to sign a petition presented by County Attorney Kevin Hill for review.

Around 300 letters were sent out by the county attorney’s office in late July giving property owners who were at least three years delinquent on taxes until September 1st to pay the amount owed or be included in the tax sale petition.

Hill says it will be next spring at the earliest before a tax sale is set.
