(KAIR)--An Atchison County Jail inmate is back behind bars after fleeing custody for several hours.

According to a report from Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie, 31-year-old Sidney Isaac Kye Jr. failed to report back to the jail after work release Monday.

The jail reported the incident to deputies who began a search for Kye.

He was arrested around 2:45 Tuesday morning after being spotted by a deputy running east in the alley in the 600 block of Atchison Street.

He was booked back into the Atchison County jail for escape from custody.

He remains there held without bond on the escape charge. Kye had previously been serving a one-year sentence before he failed to return after work release.
