Kildare Volunteer Fire Department plans fish fry Saturday

The Kildare Volunteer Fire Department will have its third annual fish fry at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the fire station in Kildare. The station is located at Church Street and 11th Street.

Admission is by donation to the fire department.

The menu includes fish, chicken, beans, cole slaw, hush puppies and a drink.

Money raised by the event will go to help the department finish converting an ex-military truck into a heavy brush truck and to purchase folding tables and chairs.

Heavy  brush trucks are used to carry more water to battle large wildland fires.

This will be Kildare's second heavy brush truck and will give the department better capability to get a quick knock-down on fires  in the district. It also will allow the volunteers the opportunity to provide mutual aid with other fire departments without compromising fire protection in the district.

The folding tables and chairs will allow the department to host events without borrowing the items.

The department and firefighters are selling tickets for a chance to win an AR-15. This rifle is a flat top and in a camo design. It can be traded for an all black design.

Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. They can be purchased at the fish fry, at the annual meeting in November or from any Kildare firefighter.
