Which Tenor is which? Come see this comedy about mistaken identities and the kind of love that lasts, no matter how many times it gets trampled on.
It is the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. The world-famous tenor, Tito Merelli, “Il Stupendo,” is to perform his greatest role, Otello, at the 10-year anniversary gala season opener.
Henry Saunders, the opera’s executive director, has high hopes that Merelli’s performance will put Cleveland on the operatic map. However, at the final dress rehearsal of Otello, Merelli is nowhere to be found, Saunders is in a panic, and, along with Max Garber, Saunders’s personal assistant, they scramble to figure out what to do.
This performance at the Ponca Playhouse is being staged in the round, with pantomime a large part of the production.
The small cast for this show includes director Doobie Potter; Chris Schelp as Max; Caroline Buck Homier as Maggie; Larry King as Saunders; John P. Maddox as Tito; Sierra Salton as Maria; Eric Bay as the bellhop and Marylynn Coryell as Julia. The part of Diana will be announced.
