LV Man Accused of Setting Supervisor On Fire

(KAIR)--A Leavenworth man, who worked as a civilian hospital employee at Fort Leavenworth, is accused of setting a female supervisor on fire in an attempt to kill her.

54-year-old Clifford Currie Thursday was charged in federal court with one count of assault with intent to commit murder.

According to the office of U.S. Attorney Tom Beall, the criminal complaint against Currie alleges that he threw gasoline, or some other inflammable liquid on the supervisor, lit her on fire, and assaulted her with a straight edge razor.

The burning woman was assisted by another hospital worker who was also allegedly injured by Currie as she attempted to stop his attack.

Currie was subdued by additional hospital employees and then arrested.

A statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office says he faces 20-years in federal prison, and a fine up to $250,000, if convicted.
