(KNZA)--The earthquake that was felt locally this past weekend was even stronger than first reported.
The U.S Geological Survey Wednesday upgraded the magnitude of Saturday’s earthquake in northeast Oklahoma from a 5.6 to a 5.8 on the Richter Scale after further analysis of seismic recordings.
The earthquake struck shortly after 7:00, eight miles northwest of the town of Pawnee, Oklahoma.
The upgrade officially makes the earthquake the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Oklahoma. It was the second earthquake exceeding a 5.0 magnitude in the state this year.
The quake was felt throughout the Midwest, including in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas.
Many local residents took to social media Saturday to report feeling the earthquake.
