The Ponca City Police Department ended the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” National Campaign by conducting saturated patrol Friday evening into Saturday morning.
The campaign ran through the summer travel season beginning Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day weekend.
Within a six-hour period on Friday night and into the early morning hours of Saturday, a total of 44 citations were written.
Ten citations were written for defective equipment; nine for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign; six for no insurance and two for driving under suspension.
One driver was cited for no driver’s license issued. Three citations were issued for improper turns. One driver did not have their license in possession at the time.
Officers wrote citations to drivers for expired license plates. Three drivers were cited for improper lane use; one for failing to change their address on their driver’s license; and six drivers were issued speeding tickets.
The Ponca City Police Department has been the recipient of a competitive grant for several years from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. The grant has been used to purchase equipment or to pay overtime for officers during special enforcement efforts.
