Two Hiawatha Organizations Merge

(KNZA)--Two Hiawatha organizations have merged.

Chamber of Commerce President Mike Twombly informed the Hiawatha City Commission Tuesday evening about the merge of the Chamber and the  Convention and Visitors Bureau, which became official late last month.

Twombly says the Chamber approached the C-V-B a couple of months ago about a possible merger.  He said they realized many of their goals, events and activities overlapped and it would make sense for them to work together.  Twombly says the C-V-B agreed.

Twombly says the merger will allow them to have a full-time Chamber/CVB position so they can keep putting on events, like the Easter Egg Hunt, Maple Leaf Festival and Halloween Frolic, while also being able to expand the benefits and support to Hiawatha businesses.

Three C-V-B board members joined the entire Chamber board for their first consolidated meeting Wednesday evening.

Twombly says they will be ironing out the new bylaws and other details over the remaining months of the year.

Mayor Steffen Shamburg says he believes the merger is good move.  Shamburg said " it's the way of the world."
