Two Vehicle Collision Claims One Life

(KNZA)--A car collides with a semi on a Brown County roadway Tuesday morning, leaving one dead and one injured as an outcome of the crash.

Killed was 28-year-old Hiawatha resident Nathan Cortez, identified by the Kansas Highway Patrol as the driver of a Honda Civic, that was westbound in the eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 36, just east of Mallard Road.

The car smashed head-on into an eastbound semi, driven by 32-year-old Lucas Keebler, of Highland.

The Patrol says Cortez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he died.

Keebler, who was buckled up at the time of the crash, was also transported to the  Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.

The wreck, which happened around 9:10, remains under investigation.
