(KNZA/AP)--Many local residents reported feeling a strong earthquake that rattled the Midwest Saturday morning
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.6. The quake struck at 7:02 Saturday morning with an epicenter about 8 miles northwest of Pawnee, Oklahoma.
It was one of the largest earthquake's on record in Oklahoma.
There are no immediate reports of major damage.
The quake was felt throughout the Midwest, including in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, and Texas.
Oklahoma’s uptick in earthquakes has been linked to the injection of wastewater underground from oil and gas production. State regulators have begun reducing the volume or shutting down disposal wells in response.
