(KMZA)--Marshall County voters will not face a sales tax issue for  Community Memorial Healthcare during the November general election.

That comes after a motion at this week’s Marshall County Commission meeting by Commissioner Charlie Loiseau to place a half-cent sales tax issue on the ballot died due to the lack of a second.      

The Marysville Advocate reports his fellow Commissioners, Tom Holle and Bob Connell, said they hadn’t heard support from local residents for the sales tax proposal.

CMH Board members had asked the Commission at  their August 22nd meeting to place a one-cent sales tax proposal on the November ballot to provide financial support for the non-profit organization, which operates a hospital in Marysville and three clinics.

The sales tax, which would have raised an estimated $1.2 million a year, was proposed to sunset after 10 years.

CMH Board Chairman Bryce Porter told the Commission they can’t sustain their budget much longer without new revenues.

In recent years, support from federal and state health care programs has steadily declined for all hospitals in Kansas and many are seeking new revenue sources.
