(KNZA)--Unemployment was up in area northeast Kansas counties in July.
According to a report released Friday by the Kansas Department of Labor, Atchison County had the highest unemployment rate among area counties at 8 percent and Nemaha County had the lowest at 3.4 percent.
Brown County's jobless rate in July stood at 4.4 percent; Doniphan, 4.9 percent; Jackson, 4.3 percent; Jefferson, 4.4 percent; Leavenworth, 4.8 percent; Marshall, 3.6 percent; and Pottawatomie, 4.2 percent.
All the figures were up from June. In addition, they were up from July 2015 in Atchison, Jackson, Leavenworth, Marshall and Nemaha Counties.
Statewide, the unemployment rate in July was 4.1 percent. That's up from 3.8 percent in June and unchanged from July 2015.
