Boater Dies In Jefferson County

(KAIR)--A Topeka man loses his life while boating in Jefferson County.

WIBW-TV identifies the victim as 46-year-old Jeff Miller.

Citing the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the TV station says Kansas Wildlife and Parks was called to the Longview area of Perry Lake around 5:45 Friday evening after it was reported that Miller was missing. He was last seen around 3:30 in the afternoon aboard his sailboat.

A search, conducted jointly with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, lasted until Midnight Saturday, then began again at 6:30 in the morning.

Miller's body was recovered from the water, west of Longview Park, about an hour after the search resumed.

The incident remains under investigation by Kansas Wildlife and Parks and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
