(KAIR)--It's official: the airplane, identical to the one flown by Amelia Earhart, will arrive in Atchison, the city that Earhart once called home, on Monday.
The 1935 Lockheed Electra L-10E, named Muriel, departed from El Cajon, California, August 15, transported as a super wide load by Wichita-based trucking company Landstar, Inc.
The truck, trailer and airplane will make it's way into Atchison Monday morning, then make designated welcoming stops, including the Atchison Elementary School and Saint Benedict's School, where Muriel's arrival will be greeted by the children.
A noon hour ceremony, complete with ribbon cutting, is planned at the Amelia Earhart Airport.
A full itinerary of Monday's planned ceremonies can be found below.
Muriel was owned, maintained, and restored by aviatrix Grace McGuire for 34-years.
The Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation adopted the airplane from McGuire.
The plan is to eventually house Muriel in an Amelia Earhart themed museum, with a fundraising campaign launched to make that a reality.
