Tribal Council Chair Responds to Ouster

(KAIR)--The Chairman of the Sac and Fox Tribal Council responds to his attempted ouster and the resulting restraining order filed because of it.

That happened Saturday during the tribal council's annual General Council Meeting in the Brown County community of Reserve.
It was there that three Council members facing a recall petition, including Chairman Edmore Green, were removed from their roles of leadership and replaced.

Green, in a lengthy written statement, says that action is what led to the filing of the restraining order, which maintains the three were removed illegally.

A hearing is set for August 29th.

In a letter dated August 16, Tribal Council Member at Large, Victoria Ramos, requests help from the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, asking that the agency be in attendance during the hearing. Ramos is one of two tribal council members that remained following the removal of the other three.

Green says he recused himself from Saturday's General Council Meeting following what he contends were illegal actions related to the election process.

Among those elected Saturday was Sarah Padilla. Green identifies her as the Housing Authority Admission Clerk, relevant to his allegations because of the standing suspension of the Housing Board of Commissioners, pending a technical assistance review of tenant files by an official from HUD for compliance of the rights of tenants.

He says “personal private tenant information” was released publicly in “violation of federal laws pertaining to Low Rent Housing recipients,” saying that Padilla was in possession of the confidential documents on Saturday. That allegation, Green says, has led to the call for a federal investigation.
