Hiawatha Hospital CEO Resigns

(KNZA)--The newly hired CEO of the  Hiawatha Community Hospital has resigned.

According to a news release from Human Resources Director, Alison Kerl, the hospital’s Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Roger Barnhart, effective August 16th.

No reason was given for the resignation.

Kerl said in the release that an executive team consisting of selected hospital staff members has been appointed to act in the interim while the Board initiates a search for a new CEO.

Barnhart, a native of Phillipsburg, Kansas, took over July 1st as CEO following the retirement of John Moore.

Moore had been with the hospital for 27 years, including 20 years as CEO.

Barnhart was hired following a nationwide search for potential candidates, done with the assistance of the healthcare staffing services of American Consultants, and several members of both hospital staff and the Hiawatha community. The search produced more than 100 qualified applicants for the position.
