(KMZA)--Inmates are now being housed in the new Nemaha County ( KS ) Jail.
Sheriff Rich Vernon informed the County Commission Monday that inmates were moved into the new 36-bed jail on August 9th.
There had been a delay in transferring inmates into the facility, which was completed in May, due to issues with the control system in the jail which have since been resolved.
Groundbreaking for the new 15,000-square-foot jail addition was held in November 2014.
The county financed the nearly $4.6 million project through existing capital outlay funds.
In other business, District Court Clerk Patty Heideman met with Commission to give them a number of price estimates to remodel the Clerks office. She had estimates for painting, flooring, carpentry and electrical work. Commissioners asked her to get more estimates and to bring to them from different local companies.
After touring the restrooms at Nemaha County Community Building, the Commission decided to get a cost estimate from Eisenbarth Plumbing of Seneca to replace the sinks and toilets in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.
