OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The ballot titles of two proposals intended to help control the future growth of Oklahoma's prison population have been rewritten by the state Supreme Court.

In a 6-2 decision with one abstention Monday, the court ruled ballot titles that describe the character and purpose of each of the initiatives were deficient and rewrote them to comply with state law.

Ballot titles drafted by supporters of the measures were rewritten by Attorney General Scott Pruitt's Office. But the Supreme Court ruled none of the ballot titles sufficiently described the measures and that those prepared by Pruitt's office were "misleading and partial."

One proposal would reclassify some drug and property crimes as misdemeanors instead of felonies, and the other directs that money saved by the change be directed toward crime prevention efforts.
