( MSC News)—Voters went to the polls Tuesday to decide primary races for county, state and federal offices. In addition, voters in several locations also faced special questions.
In Brown County, incumbent Sheriff John Merchant won the Republican primary, defeating challenger Danny Siebenmorgen. Merchant received about 57 percent of the vote.
Incumbent Republican 2nd District Commissioner Keith Olsen defeated challenger Roger Madere, receiving about 56 percent of the vote.

Voters in Horton said “yes” to a one-percent city-wide retailers sales tax to fund the construction of a new municipal swimming pool. The sales tax was approved by a more than 40 vote margin. It will take effect January 1st and be in effect for 20 years.
In Doniphan County, voters determined the outcome of several races, with the results of the Republican Primary Election effectively showing the future leaders of the contested seats.
That includes 2nd District Doniphan County Commission, where Thad Geiger defeated incumbent Terry Horner, 402 to 262.
In the race for 3rd District County Commission, incumbent Jerry McKernan retains the position, defeating challenger George Mitchell 274 to 108.
In the County Treasurer's race, Lindsay Etherton defeated Melissa Mott 812 to 595. The two newcomers to the race were seeking the seat currently held by Jacqueline Linck, who chose not to seek re-election.
None of the victors will face Democratic challengers in the November general election.
In Wathena, voters overwhelmingly approved a one-percent city-wide sales tax for the purpose of maintaining the city’s streets, water system, and sewer system, and to minimize the need for property tax increases. The sales tax will take effect January 1st and be in effect for 10 years.
