Several Po-Hi orchestra students attended the University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp. These students were on campus in Fayetteville, Arkansas, July 17-22.
Students on the front row, from left, are Madison Hurley, Jenna Wynes, Christy Lee, and Cassidy Lee. Back row, Aurora Hawkins-Ward, Kate Cain, Telia Archer, Cassidy Broome, and Giant Boykin.
During the audition process, three Po-Hi students earned principal (first) chair honors. These were Giant Boykin on string bass, Cassidy Broome on cello, and Jenna Wynes on the second violin part. Also making the top group, the Symphony Orchestra, at the camp were Telia Archer, Cassidy Lee and Christy Lee.
Giant Boykin and Jenna Wynes were leadership captains at the camp this year. Jenna was chosen again for next year along with Cassidy Broome. Giant was also attending camp this year as last year's recipient of the Chal Ragsdale Award for Outstanding Leadership.
Captains and Award winners at camp receive scholarship money toward camp the next summer.
Two Ponca City orchestra teachers also worked on the camp faculty. Katie Rolf was one of the sectional coaches and Dan Larson conducted the Symphony Orchestra.
