(KLZA)-- Discussions continue in Auburn about possible community projects and facilities to be pursued. City representatives and School Board members met recently to discuss the possibilities.

 Five projects have been pushed to the forefront, but Mayor Scott Kudrna says costs are eliminating some of the projects from the list. A YMCA is estimated to cost $14-15-million. An indoor aquatic facility not only includes a $3.5-4 million construction cost, but would require $70 – 100,000 annually to operate.  

 A performing arts center at the school has long been on the wish list of many Auburn residents. Mayor Kudrna says that it is his feeling that it is not a good time to ask property owners, due to low farm commodity prices and high input cost for farmers.
The cost of the performing arts center, estimated at around $7-million would require both property tax and sales tax funds.

The projects the City could look at would be a gymnasium  estimated at $4-millon or a convention center with a floating costs depending on what is included.
Both the City and the School District would need voter approval to move forward with a bond issue to pay for facilities. Mayor Kudrna thinks its possible voters may go to the polls next spring to determine if they are willing to pay more taxes for these facilities.

No decisions have been made and more public input will be sought prior to any ballot measures are brought to voters.
