(KNZA)--After more than two years of planning and construction, the new Holton Wal-Mart store is set to open Wednesday morning.

The store, located at 427 South Arizona Avenue, is to open its doors at 8:00 following a ribbon cutting ceremony, beginning at 7:30.

The current store will close at 7:00 Tuesday evening so store employees can make final preparations for Wednesday’s opening.

At about 69,000-square-feet, the new store will be nearly twice the size of the current store, which opened its doors in 1981.

Wal-Mart officials say the new store will offer shoppers an expanded shopping selection, particularly in the grocery department.

When the Bentonville, Arkansas-based company initially announced its plans for the new store in early 2014, included was the construction of an adjacent convenience store.  However, those plans have since been set aside.
