(KNZA)--The Jackson County Commission has hired a new county counselor.

The Holton Recorder reports Holton Attorney J. Richard Lake will fill the position as legal counsel for the Commission at a salary of $1,000 a month. .

Lake replaces Shawna Miller, who recently resigned after holding the position since January.  Miller will continue to serve as the Jackson County Attorney, which is an elected position.

Miller cited her large caseload as county attorney in her letter resignation as county counselor.
