(KLZA)-- Resurfacing and repair work is being done to an about two-mile section of the Steamboat Trace Trail.
The Nemaha Natural Resources District has closed this section of the trail until the work is completed.
The affected area lies between the Honey Creek and Weldon Creek bridges. That is between mile markers 19 and 22.
This section of the trail, between Peru and Brownville has experienced recurring damage from floodwaters and erosion.
Kreifels Conservation and Excavating from Nebraska City is the contractor for the $346,000 project which includes drainage improvements and installation of 18 new culverts, and concrete paving of 3,100 feet within this portion of the trail.
Work is estimated to take about two months to complete.
