(KNZA)--Tracking the whereabouts of offenders is set to become simpler in Brown County, where a system to make that happen will soon be implemented.
According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, Sheriff John Merchant and Undersheriff Randy Linck Wednesday traveled to Holton for a training session regarding Victim Information Notification Everyday, commonly known as VINE.
The press release states that VINE is comprised of an anonymous statewide telephone and online service that will provide both crime victims and the general public with information related to offenders.
Monitoring the custody status of offenders in Kansas County jails, VINE will update victims when an offender is released.
The general public, and victims, will also be able to place a call, and go online, to view the status of an offender.
VINE is being provided to Brown County at no cost, and is expected to be in operation in August.
