(KAIR)--Atchison Police say one person is now in custody in connection with a late Thursday night shooting that left a 12-year-old girl hospitalized, and additional arrests are expected.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson told MSC News multiple shots were fired at a residence in the 1400 block of Commercial Street, where four people were on or near the home’s porch when the shots were fired. Wilson says the 12-year-old girl was struck by a bullet around 11:45 Thursday night. She was transported to Amberwell Atchison by Atchison County EMS and later flown to a Kansas City hospital for further care. As of late Friday afternoon she remained hospitalized in Kansas City.
Wilson says a 20-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after 2:00 Friday afternoon in Horton. Wilson says the man is being charged with attempted murder and that additional arrests are expected.
Wilson says Atchison Police detectives continued gathering information and evidence throughout the day Friday, and the investigation will continue into the weekend.
