Domestic violence funds to benefit Jackson Co

(KAIR)--More than $2.4 million in grant funding is being awarded in Kansas to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, and stalking, with a portion going locally to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release from Governor Laura Kelly, the funding comes through the federal Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecutors—S.T.O.P.—Violence Against Women Act, or VAWA, Formula Grant Program, which supports community-based efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women.

The release says the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will receive a 2026 S.T.O.P. VAWA grant award totaling $78,640.

State officials say the program supports the development, training, and expansion of specialized units within law enforcement, prosecutors’ offices, and the courts, while also strengthening victim services and legal assistance programs and encouraging coordinated community responses to domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Federal funds are provided through the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women.
