(KAIR)--A 12-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured Friday evening after a crash with a car at the intersection of Atchison's Hickory and M streets.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, in a release, said officers responded around 5:15 that evening and found a 2013 Ford Fusion driven by 26-year-old Talia Rawls and the cyclist had collided in the intersection.
According to both Atchison Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol, the young cyclist failed to stop at a stop sign and did not yield the right-of-way, leading to the collision. The KHP was on the scene and oversaw the completion of the accident report.
The boy was transported by Atchison County EMS to Amberwell Hospital for examination for what the KHP called suspected serious injuries..
According to the KHP's report, the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Rawls was not injured.
