(KAIR)--A two-vehicle, Friday afternoon crash in Lancaster sent an Atchison woman to the hospital.

According to a release from Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie, deputies responded around 12:20 to the intersection of Jewell Road and U.S. Highway 73.

Laurie says a 16-year-old boy from Nortonville was southbound on Jewell Road and failed to yield while crossing the highway, causing his pickup struck to collide with an eastbound minivan driven by 50-year-old Serena Thomas of Atchison.

Laurie says the minivan left the roadway and came to rest on the highway's north side embankment, with Thomas transported to Amberwell Atchison by Atchison County EMS for hospital treatment of her unspecified injuries.

The 16-year-old, who refused medical treatment, was cited for failure to yield.
