Man arrested after six-hour standoff at Holton home

(KNZA)--Authorities took a man into custody Wednesday night following a six-hour standoff at a home in Holton.

According to Jackson CountySheriff Tim Morse, officers with the Holton Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were called just after 5:15 p.m. Wednesday to 206 New Jersey Street for a reported physical altercation between two men.

When officers arrived, the suspect reportedly ran inside the residence and barricaded himself.

Law enforcement officers later located the suspect hiding in a basement crawl space and took him into custody around 11:30 Wednesday night.

The suspect was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery, and cruelty to animals.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Morse says additional details are expected to be released later today.
