(KMZA)--A Kansas City man has been sentenced in connection with a fatal 2023 crash in Marshall County.
John Kiser the Second was sentenced Friday in Marshall County District Court to six months in jail on an amended misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide. Court records show he received credit for 53 days already served.
Kiser originally faced a felony involuntary manslaughter charge. However, under a plea agreement reached in January, he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed three aggravated battery counts and one count of texting while driving.
The case stemmed from a three-vehicle crash on September 22nd, 2023, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 36 and K-110 south of Axtell. 63-year-old Denise Torrey of Axtell was killed, and three other people were injured.
Kiser was charged in August 2024 following a Kansas Highway Patrol investigation and was arrested that October after a warrant was issued in Marshall County.
