(KNZA)--The race for Hiawatha mayor is beginning to take shape.

According to the Brown County Clerk’s Office, incumbent Mayor Becky Shamburg filed Friday for re-election to another four-year term.

Shamburg has served as mayor since January 2023. Prior to that, she served as a city commissioner.

She will face current commissioner Brian Shefferd this fall.

Also on the ballot this fall is Hiawatha City Commission Seat One, currently held by David Middendorf. Mitch Bruning has filed for that position.

All Hiawatha city commission races are non-partisan.

Candidates have until noon on June 1st to file with the Brown County Clerk’s Office.

The general election will be held November 3rd.
