Near 100 mph citation tops weekend Atchison Co traffic efforts

(KAIR)--A driver clocked at nearly 100 mph on U.S. Highway 73 highlighted a busy Memorial Day weekend of traffic enforcement for Atchison County Sheriff's deputies.

Sheriff Jack Laurie, in a release, says 21-year-old Atticus Lawson of Olathe was cited Saturday after radar showed him allegedly driving 97 mph in a posted 65 mph zone on U.S. 73 near Jewell Road.

Laurie's release lists four other citations issued over the extended holiday weekend.

Friday evening, 46-year-old Andrew Torrez of Topeka was stopped on U.S. Highway 59 near 258th Road, cited for doing 61 in a posted 35 mph construction zone. Also that evening, 64-year-old Tony Schuetz of Bonner Springs was cited for 79 in a 65 on U.S. 73 near Lincoln Road.

Saturday night, a 16-year-old girl from St. Joseph, Missouri was stopped on River Road and cited for traveling 60 mph in a posted 20 mph zone.

And Monday morning, 35-year-old Austin Stephan of Winchester was cited for 82 in a 65 on U.S. 73 near 258th Road.
