Hiawatha City Commission awards contract for traffic signal project

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha City Commission has awarded the contract for the First and Oregon Street traffic signal project.

During a special meeting Wednesday evening, commissioners unanimously approved awarding the project to TLS Group at a cost of $436,776. City Administrator Brad Scott was authorized to sign the contract.

The Oklahoma City-based company, which also operates a Kansas division in Topeka, submitted the lower of two bids opened May 20th. The winning bid came in well below the engineer’s estimate of more than $659,000.

According to project documents, work is expected to begin following the issuance of a work order on or about June 29th. The project is scheduled to be substantially completed by August 14th, with final completion expected by August 21st, pending any work order revisions or delays issued by the city.
