(KNZA)--A Holton man arrested last week following an hours-long standoff will undergo a court-ordered mental competency evaluation.
A Jackson County judge on Thursday ordered 36-year-old Joshua Jefferson to be evaluated by Kanza Mental Health. A competency hearing has been scheduled for June 11th.
Jefferson was taken into custody on May 20th after a standoff that began during an animal cruelty investigation. He is currently facing multiple charges in Jackson County District Court, including aggravated assault, criminal threat, two counts of interference with law enforcement, battery, and animal cruelty.
Court proceedings in the case are on hold pending the results of the mental evaluation.
Jefferson remains held at the Jackson County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
