(KAIR)--Children of Atchison have a chance to be part of the City's Fourth of July celebration, while commemorating a half-decade for Atchison's International Forest of Friendship.
The Forest is inviting children to march in this year's Fourth of July Parade, carrying state flags as part of their parade entry. Forest of Friendship committee member Diane Liebsch says the entry celebrates two major milestones: America's 250th birthday and the Forest's 50th anniversary.
Children ages 7 and older are welcome to march and carry flags representing all 50 states. Younger children may also take part, as long as a parent or guardian walks with them.
Liebsch, in a release, calls the flag?carrying tradition “a meaningful way for children to connect with both local and national pride.”
The parade begins at 4:00 on the afternoon on Saturday, July 4th, along an approximately three-quarter-mile route. Participants are asked to arrive for lineup between 3:15 and 3:30 at 10th and Commercial Streets.
To sign up, email Diane Liebsch or call the Forest office at 913-367-1419. .
