(KMZA)-- Nemaha County Commissioners have directed that the county's proposed Land Use Development Code be returned to the Nemaha County Planning Commission for further review.
At their June 22 meeting, commissioners discussed possible changes to the code and the option of placing the issue before voters in an advisory election. County Counselor and County Administrator Austin Parker said an advisory election could cost the county about $10,000.
Commissioners unanimously approved a motion to send the code back to the Planning Commission for review and clarification of questions. The Planning Commission will consider the suggested changes at its next regular meeting.
In other business, commissioners approved renewal of the county’s property and liability insurance coverage effective July first. The new policy, through EMC Insurance and Cowbell Cyber Insurance, increases premiums by just over five percent, bringing the annual cost to nearly 212-thousand dollars.
Commissioners also heard from Kanza Mental Health CEO Krista Eylar, who requested continued county support of $66,072 for 2027. The request will be considered during preparation of the county's 2027 budget.
