(KNZA)--A Nortonville man is facing multiple child sex charges in Jefferson County.

Thirty-four-year-old Allen Byler was formally charged Tuesday with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

According to the criminal complaint, the alleged crimes involved a child under the age of 14 and occurred between October of 2024 and June 12th of this year.

Byler was arrested June 19th following a joint investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

He made his first court appearance Tuesday. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 9th.

Byler remains in the Jefferson County Jail on a 250-thousand-dollar bond.
