Alleged armed Hiawatha threat sends man to jail

(KNZA)--A Hiawatha man is facing felony charges after police say he pointed a firearm at two pedestrians Tuesday evening.

According to a release, Hiawatha Police responded around 8:45  to the area of Delaware and 5th Street after reports of a disturbance. Witnesses told officers a white vehicle had pulled alongside two pedestrians when a passenger in the rear seat exchanged words with them before allegedly pointing a gun in their direction.

Officers quickly identified witnesses and pursued multiple leads. Around 10:30 that evening, police located and arrested 42-year-old Jacinto Ramirez of Hiawatha without incident. Ramirez was transported to the Brown County Sheriff's Office for booking.

Hiawatha Police are requesting felony charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm against Ramirez.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation and arrest. Hiawatha Police Chief David Villanueva credited the Sheriff's Office for their teamwork and swift response.
