For Southeast Nebraska there is a heat advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Heat index values up to 106 degrees are possible today and Tuesday in Southeast Nebraska.
In Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values possibly approaching 110 degrees are possible throughout the week.
These hot temperatures and high humidity levels may cause heat illnesses.
Area residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay of of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.
Never leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
You should take extra precautions including wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Be sure to take action when you notice symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
