Doniphan County Commission discusses road improvements, 911 dispatching

(KNZA)--The Doniphan County Commission discussed road improvements and emergency dispatch staffing during Monday’s meeting.

County residents Tony Studer, Shelley Studer, and Dennis Bembrick asked commissioners to consider chip sealing Runnymede Road north of 190th Road near Blair. Bembrick said the road serves about 10 homes and questioned why other roads with fewer homes have received chip seal improvements.

Commissioner Wayne Grable said the county cannot chip seal every road but is trying to provide better connections from gravel roads to existing hard-surfaced routes. He said the county’s three-year chip seal plan focuses on major county roads and adjoining gravel roads.

In other business, Sheriff Mark Allen reported staffing shortages in the 911 Dispatch Center, with only two full-time dispatchers available to cover 24-hour operations. Commissioners approved a temporary pay increase for part-time dispatchers to 25 dollars an hour, with no benefits, until the department is fully staffed.
