(KAIR)--The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued a boil water advisory Saturday for the City of Valley Falls' public water supply in Jefferson County, with city officials, hours following the issuance, saying the cause of the advisory has been remedied.
According to KDHE, the advisory took effect Saturday, July 18th, after a waterline break caused a loss of pressure in the distribution system, a situation that can lead to a drop in chlorine residuals and possible bacterial contamination. The advisory remains in effect until conditions that placed the system at risk are resolved.
In a statement released Saturday afternoon, just hours after the advisory was announced, the City of Valley Falls said the water main break has been repaired. At that time, city crews were refilling the Hurst Water Tower, with water service expected to begin returning to homes and businesses shortly.
The city is asking residents who continue to experience little or no water pressure after service is restored to contact City Hall for assistance.
KDHE says customers should boil water for one minute before drinking or food preparation until further notice.
