(KLZA)-- The Johnson-Brock school district patron Mark Caspers addressed the Board of Education last week urging the Board to take taxpayers into consideration prior to voting on exceeding the property tax authority, noting opposition from district patrons.

Later in the meeting, the Board voted unanimously to exceed the taxing authority as allowed by state statute.

In other action, Superintendent Jeff Koehler provided information on option enrollment, noting the while state law mandates the acceptance of siblings regardless of capacity limits, the Johnson-Brock district's current policy does not require revision unless the Board desires a change.

Following discussion the Board agreed to keep the policy as written, noting that it has proven effective.

Board member Brian Meyer expressed his concerns in regards to a low balance in the Activity Fund. He said he was apprehensive about students having to fund raise for items he believes the district should cover and highlighted the financial strain on local businesses due to frequent donation requests.

Meyer suggested transferring funds from the General Fund to the Activity Fund to better support student activities.

Following discussion concerning how expansion of various activities has impacted the fund, it was decided the Finance Committee would schedule a meeting to review the matter further.
